Comparison

Doorstep vs hipages, for tradies.

One sells leads to everyone. The other lists you free to homeowners only. Here's where each one actually wins.

Who sees you

hipages: anyone who posts a job, owner or renter.
Doorstep: homeowners in the suburbs you chose.

What you pay

hipages: a subscription and/or per-lead credits, whether the job comes off or not.
Doorstep: free while your suburb is built; we tell you before anything costs.

Reviews

hipages: from customers who hired through the platform.
Doorstep: one per neighbour who lives nearby; you can always reply, never delete.

hipages details are our summary of its public pricing and product pages at the time of writing; check hipages.com.au for current terms.

Where hipages wins

Reach, today. It's national, it has years of jobs behind it, and a tradie who needs work this week can buy leads this week. Doorstep is young and rolls out one suburb at a time — if your suburb is still quiet, a listing is a foothold, not a firehose.

Where Doorstep is different

Every member owns their home. On hipages the person posting "need a plumber" might be a tenant whose landlord will veto the quote; here that person doesn't exist. Nobody is selling your lead to two competitors, because there are no leads for sale — a homeowner finds your listing and calls you. And the ranking can't be bought: one labelled sponsored slot per category, ordered otherwise by what neighbours rated you.

The honest recommendation

Keep whatever is working. Add a Doorstep listing because it costs you nothing to be there when your suburb fills, and because the businesses listed on day one are the ones collecting reviews first. Start with your state →

Our rules

Four things we'll never do

Message your customers for you. Sell you a better rating. Pull a review because you don't like it. Pass your details on. These were written down before the first business joined — not after a bad one.

Questions

Doorstep vs hipages

Is Doorstep a replacement for hipages?

Not yet, and we won't pretend otherwise. hipages has scale; Doorstep is rolling out suburb by suburb. What Doorstep has that hipages can't is an audience made entirely of homeowners. The two aren't mutually exclusive — a free listing costs you nothing to run alongside whatever else you do.

Does Doorstep sell leads?

No. A business can't message members and we never hand member details to a business. People find your listing and contact you. There is no per-lead fee, and no lead is sold to anyone else.

Who writes the reviews?

Only Doorstep members who live in or near your suburbs, one each. Not the internet.
