Advertising to homeowners in Australia, without paying for renters.

Two in three Australian households own their home. Almost no local advertising can tell you which two — so you pay for all three.

66%of households own outright or with a mortgage
30.6%rent
0%of them are told apart by a search ad, a letterbox drop or a lead marketplace

ABS 2021 Census, tenure type, Australia.

Every local channel sells you the whole suburb

A letterbox drop lands in every box. A search ad shows to whoever typed the words. A lead marketplace sells the same enquiry to three of you, and none of them knows whether the person asking can approve the job. For a tradie, roughly a third of that spend goes to households that will have to ring the landlord — and that share is higher in exactly the inner suburbs where advertising costs most.

The one signal that changes the maths

Ownership. Not income, not postcode, not "intent" — whether the person you're quoting can say yes. It is the single cheapest thing to know about a lead and the single hardest to buy, because the platforms that could target it have stopped, and the ones that can't never could.

How Doorstep does it

Doorstep is a neighbourhood app built for homeowners; that is who joins. Members tell us the suburb they live in. A business lists in the suburbs it serves and is shown to the members there — no targeting to configure, no audience to guess at. Reviews come only from members who live nearby, one each. How it works

A listing in the suburbs you serve. That's the whole thing.

1

You pick the suburbs

Tell us where you work. You appear there and nowhere else.

2

Neighbours rate you

Only members who live in or near your suburbs can review you, one each. A rating can't be bought.

3

Nothing to manage

No account, no dashboard. We build the listing for you; want a change, email us.

Our rules

Four things we'll never do

Message your customers for you. Sell you a better rating. Pull a review because you don't like it. Pass your details on. These were written down before the first business joined — not after a bad one.

Questions

Advertising to homeowners

Why does it matter whether a lead owns the house?

Because the owner decides. Renovations, re-roofs, rewiring, new gardens and most repairs need the owner's money and the owner's yes. A renter has to ask the landlord, and often the answer is no or not now.

Can Google or Facebook target homeowners?

Facebook removed housing-related targeting including home-ownership status. Google can't verify it. Both let you target a suburb, but not who owns what inside it.

How does Doorstep know members are homeowners?

It's who the app is for — members join as homeowners or buyers and give us the suburb they live in. Businesses only ever see aggregate suburb counts, never a member's details.
